Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial
Lubbock Area Veterans War Memorial
In 2005, in conjunction with Rotary International's centennial celebration, the Rotary Club of Lubbock wanted to come up with a lasting project to serve the community. Our club's eye fell on Henry Huneke Park at 82nd Street and Nashville Avenue, specifically on the lack of a quiet place of reflection to complement the Freedom Fountain, the War Memorial, and the Willie McCool statue honoring the late Lubbockite's service to and sacrifice for his country.
Our club raised the $15,000 to fund the construction, and the 24-foot diameter meditation area just north of the War Memorial. It features several benches and an altar for people to reflect on the memorial and their freedom.
